Go to www.awakeningthedreamer.org and go to the “What We Do” drop-down menu and select “Facilitator Trainings.” The list of upcoming trainings is on the left of the next screen, and you can click on each of those trainings for more information. Once you are on the page for a specific training, registration instructions are on that page.
Before you register, you can download the Preparation Assignment and Reading Materials from the “Facilitator Trainings” web page (see directions immediately above). After you have registered you will also receive a confirmation email that contains a link for the training materials. Click on this link and you will find the Preparation Assignment, the Reading Materials, the Background Info Sheet, and the Scholarship Request Form.
Participants find that the Preparation Assignments and Reading Materials greatly enrich their training experience. And the best that you can do will be good enough–don’t stress about completing them. The “letter to yourself about why you want to be a Symposium facilitator” might be especially valuable, for your own clarity.
At your training you will receive a printed manual and binder, so you do not need to print it out ahead of time.
There are limited scholarships on a sliding scale, available for the training tuition. You can request a scholarship request form from Emily at emily@pachamama.org. You will then receive a scholarship request form that you fill out and send back to Emily. Emily will then reply within a week about whether you received a scholarship and the amount.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to pay partial amounts for a training online. So if you are planning to request a scholarship, send in the request form to Emily and if you are awarded a scholarship, you will then send the remaining amount that you owe by check (made out to “The Pachamama Alliance”) to Emily Hittle, at The Pachamama Alliance , Presidio Bldg #1009, PO Box 29191, San Francisco, CA 94129.
If you have some other important commitment that requires you to miss a relatively short period of the training, that can usually be worked out, if you are willing to take responsibility for learning about the missed material from other participants. But if you will be missing more than a few hours out of the total training time, it might be best for you to wait for another training that you can attend completely. You can discuss this with the “for more information, contact . . . “ person shown on the webpage for the training you are interested in.
If your training offers a meal (some do not), you should discuss this with the “for more information, contact . . . “ person shown on the webpage for the training you are interested in, to make sure that they are aware of and able to accommodate your dietary needs.
Trainings have been attended by youth as young as 13, and if a younger person wants to attend, please discuss this with the “for more information, contact . . . “ person shown on the webpage for the training you are interested in. For a younger person who is clear about their desire to be there, it can be worked out.
If your training is residential, the sleeping arrangements will, of course, depend on the venue. Generally, accommodations are simple, but provide the basic comforts. If you need more specific information, please speak with the “for more information, contact . . . “ person shown on the webpage for the training you are interested in.
The specific training team may not be determined until about two weeks before the training. If you would like specific information, please speak with the “for more information, contact . . . “ person shown on the webpage for the training you are interested in.
Facilitator Trainings are designed to give the participants a deeper experience of the source, purpose, content, and flow of the Symposium, which is useful for anyone who wants to play a role in making Symposiums happen, whatever that role may be: hosting, production team, presenting, finding alliances with other organizations, etc. The word “facilitator” is intended to refer to any of these roles that make Symposiums come into being.
Please contact Ruel Walker at ruel@pachamama.org to discuss having a training in your area.
Tuition for the basic facilitator training is $125 (including materials) in all locations in the U.S. and Canada. Some trainings include a pre-paid meal or meals, and/or lodging for residential trainings—these extra charges increases the total registration cost beyond the $125 for tuition.
A week before the training you will receive a document by email giving you instructions on what to bring.
