What is the purpose of a local Community Group?

To provide a forum in which people join together in local, self-organizing, self-directing communities, taking action to bring forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just human presence on this planet as the guiding principle of our times.

 

Can anyone participate in a local Community Group?

Anyone who is inspired to connect with and actively support the Awakening the Dreamer Initiative is welcome and encouraged to participate with Community Groups. Each group determines any rules or requirements for participation that they deem appropriate for their own members.

 

There is no limit on the number of members a Local Community Group can have; however, it may become desirable at some point for a Group to split into two separate Groups if it becomes too large to function effectively.

 

Are the Local Community Groups "chapters" of The Pachamama Alliance?

The Pachamama Alliance supports and assists Local Community Groups in a variety of ways; however, each Local Community Group operates independently of The Pachamama Alliance and is legally and financially responsible for its own activities. Local Community Groups are not “chapters” of The Pachamama Alliance.

 

What is the Role of Local Community Group Coordinators?

A Local Community Group Coordinator is like any other member of the Group, except that the Coordinator acts as liaison between the Local Community Group and the rest of the Facilitator Network, and between the Local Community Group and The Pachamama Alliance. Any other role or responsibility assigned to the Local Community Group Coordinator is to be determined solely by the Group’s members.

 

The Pachamama Alliance asks that Coordinators:

•    Allow their email address to be posted on the Community Groups page on the Awakening the Dreamer website and the Symposium Wiki

•    Schedule the first regular meetings of their Group’s members until that role is shared by the group,

•    Field phone calls and emails from Group members, Symposium participants and sponsoring partners in a timely way,

•    Act as the point person for communication from The Pachamama Alliance to the Local Community Group and vice versa

 

Are there other Roles Within Local Community Groups?

In addition to choosing Coordinators, Community Groups may decide there are other roles to be filled, depending on the needs and activities of the Group. Some examples:

 

•    Secretary: records minutes of meetings and organizes record-keeping

•    Statistician: tracks measures and milestones for Group initiatives

•    Public Relations: arranges publicity for the Group’s activities

•    Organizational Partnerships Coordinator: initiates and maintains relationships with other local organizations on behalf of the Group

•    Inventory Coordinator: keeps track of supplies, materials and equipment used in delivering Symposiums and other Group activities

 

These are just suggestions; there are certainly many other possibilities.

 

Besides delivering the Symposium, what else do Local Community Groups do?

Local Community Groups are not limited to delivering Symposiums as a way to carry out the work of the Awakening the Dreamer Initiative. Many Groups are helping to build new support structures for Symposium delivery, expand the reach of the Symposium, and develop specialized adaptations of the Symposium itself.

The Facilitators Network is a place where facilitators can connect with each other, share photos & videos, get support, and form groups.
